1.      Overview

The institute of Image Processing and Intelligent Systems(IPIS) was founded in 2006 by  the College of Electronic Information Engineering of South-Central University for Nationalities(SCUN). IPIS is one of the major research entities of the Hubei Key Laboratory of Intelligent Wireless Communication and the Key Laboratory of Electronic Information Engineering of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. And IPIS has the qualification to recruit and cultivate students for Master degrees in the discipline “Signal and information processing” and the discipline “Electronics and Communications Engineering”.  The faculty of IPIS consists of 2 professors, 1 assistant professors and 3 lecturers respectively, besides 20 M.S. candidates. And 8 teachers of IPIS have PhD degrees.

To meet the needs of applied basic research and engineering application of China, IPIS focused on the fields of image processing theory and algorithm, which includes SAR image processing, video coding, design and realization of high performance real-time system, target detection and tracking, etc. In the past five years, IPIS has undertaken 3 projects at the national level from National Natural Science Fund, 8 projects from Hubei Province Natural Science Fund(including 2 key projects), one key project from State Ethnic Affairs Commission Fund, 2 projects from Wuhan Science and Technology Research Program and some projects from university fund and collaborative programs. IPIS also has published more than 80 papers in the international and domestic  academic  journals  and  important  international academic conferences among which 12 papers have been collected by SCI and more than 50 papers have been collected by EI. Those journals include IEEE Trans. Image Processing, IEEE Trans. Signal Processing, IEEE Trans. Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, Signal Processing, Optical Engineering, Science China, Journal on Communications, etc. Recently, IPIS has applied 5 national patents and 2 of them have been authorized. In 2011, IPIS won the second prize of Hubei Science and Technology Award.
