From May 26 2014 to May 30 2014, Associate Professor Jin Hou visited the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) to participate in the Workshop on Coherent Phenomena in Disordered Optical Systems, which was jointly organized by the CNRS Grenoble, CNRS Nice, INO-CNR BEC Center of Italy and also ICTP. ICTP was founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, and it was located at Trieste, Italy. It operates under a tripartite agreement between the Italian Government, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and ratified by an act of the Italian Parliament in January 1995. Since 1996, UNESCO has been responsible for the administrative management of ICTP. Each year, ICTP organizes more than 60 international conferences, workshops, and numerous seminars and colloquia to advance science developing.
On May 29 2014, Associate Professor Jin Hou gave a thirty minutes oral presentation about his recent studies on slow light. In the workshop, including Jin Hou’s talk, famous physicist from all over the world made 37 oral presentations and 6 poster presentations about coherent phenomena in disordered optical systems in total. The workshop also attracted 60 participants, who came from 23 different countries. Jin Hou’s visit to ICTP was co-funded by both the National Natural Science Foundation of China and also the ICTP.
